Bless you for taking her in, how sad that she was simply left behind to fend for herself in an empty house! You didn't mention in your post if you intend to keep her or not. While I don't have any suggestions regarding payment assistance for her care, I do have a couple ideas aside from that. If you do intend to keep her, vets are sometimes willing to set up payment plans. If you do not intend to keep her, you could contact rescue groups and shelters near you, they would take her in and provide vet care at their expense. If you find she has serious health issues, there is an organization, link will follow at the end of the post, which helps pay for long term or emergency care in certain situations, that may be helpful, or perhaps they could direct you to other options.
That said, I think your first step should be to take her in for a check up for sure to have her health assessed, and then proceed with vaccines. That will give you a pretty good picture of what you are facing regarding her. It would be your expense, but it would paint a picture of what her needs are and if you are able to meet them. Good luck with her, I know she is very grateful that you have opened your home to her.
:I have just found a cat that has a sad story behind her obviously starving appearance... it seems a family she lived with locked her in the house when they moved! Some kind soul was nice enough to let her out of the empty house, but no one's come to claim the sad little kitty.
:We've taken her in out of the goodness of our heart... but she needs medical attention.
:Does anyone know of any programs or whatnot that will help pay for the vet bills?
:Thanks.
