He is just a kitten and a very active one at that! Sounds like he lonely when you're gone and happy to have you home. When my 4 year old cat was a kitten, she was my 'attack cat' and would hide and jump on me every chance that she got.

I'm sure that if you got him another little kitten to play with and keep him company, he'd be a lot happier and maybe you would be too. I do know that mine slowed down when she got a companion kitty.
