Getting a kitten would be a great idea - make sure the new one is FeLv/FIV tested before bringing it home. And help him work off some of that energy by playing with him, but do NOT play with him with your hands or feet. My cats love a laser pointer-- they chase it all over the place and it requires very little effort on my part.
He sounds hilarious and he also sounds completely normal for a kitten who has no one to play with. He needs more interaction!
:He is just a kitten and a very active one at that! Sounds like he lonely when you're gone and happy to have you home. When my 4 year old cat was a kitten, she was my 'attack cat' and would hide and jump on me every chance that she got.
:I'm sure that if you got him another little kitten to play with and keep him company, he'd be a lot happier and maybe you would be too. I do know that mine slowed down when she got a companion kitty.
