Yes. Definitely get two carriers. They'll need their own space. Sometimes cats can react aggressively if they're confined to too small a space with another cat. The best thing you could do would be to get two carriers, but place them next to each other so they can continue to see and smell each other.

If your cats aren't used to being in the car, you might want to start practicing a bit now before the move. For example, take them on short trips around the block.

To help decrease stress, place a few favorite items that have their scent on it in the carriers, e.g., a favorite toy or kitty bed. Being surrounded by familiar scents will help to keep them calm.

During the trip, let them out of their carriers when you make a rest stop. Be VERY careful to not let them out of the car though!!! Many cats won't use a litterbox in a moving vehicle, so you might want to stop and give them a chance to take care of business while the motor isn't running. They may wait until you arrive at their destination and are out of the car though.

Have plenty of water available. You should feed them light food too. Again, some cats won't eat in a moving car. As long as they have water and will be able to eat at the end of the day in a hotel or your new home, they should be ok. (Check with your vet if either cat has any medical problems or you have any other concerns. Healthy cats can easily go 14 hours without eating though.)

Also, a lot of people like to sing in the car, especially on long trips. This will be an excellent thing to do on your trip. No matter how badly off-key we are, many cats really enjoy hearing us sing. It helps calm them much of the time.

Good luck on your trip! Please post back when you get to your new home and let us know how the trip went!

:Hello, I need some suggestions for my kitties. We are moving form Colorado to Montana and we are traveling my car. I only have one carrier right now but can buy another if need be. Should I have them in seperate carriers or would it be best to put them in the one ( they will fit)? The trip will take about 14 hours and I really need some suggestions so that they are stressed as little as possible.
