I just found out the over the winter, Joe will move his two shed cats into the house. He caught them at a friend's saw mill about 3 months ago when they were 2 months old. I'm still working on having him get them fixed, mostly because no one needs more kittens in the world but also because I don't want his male (Shine) to spray in the house (!), but he is totally against vets.
Anyway, these cats have never been to a vet and therefore, have never been tested for fiv/felv. We live on the bottom floor of a two story house, joe lives upstairs. We have doors in our living and computer rooms that lead to his stairway for upstairs. These doors are fitted very poorly on the frames, so the cats can stick their whole arm under the door. We are planning on sealing the doors within a few weeeks, before the cats move into the house. If Joe's cats do have fiv or felv, could my cats get it by just being on the other side of the door? Once the doors are sealed off, they won't have any direct contact with them, just be breating the same air and such.
I'm really worried about this, I couldn't stand it if my cats got sick. I have no idea what to do, but figure fining out how communicable these diseases are is a start.
Thanks!!!!
